Well folks, it was a wild one on Saturday night at the H&PE Arena as Texas Southern University's men's basketball team squared off against Prairie View A&M University. And unfortunately, the Tigers found themselves on the wrong end of an 89-74 decision in a double-overtime thriller.
Despite coming back from a 23-10 deficit midway through the first half with a jaw-dropping 31-5 run, TSU (7-15, 3-6 SWAC) almost lost the game in the first overtime session, but a furious comeback in the final 34 seconds of the extra period kept them in it. With the clock stopped, two clutch free throws from Chris Craig and a three-pointer from PJ Henry helped tie the game and send it to a second overtime.
But it wasn't meant to be as Prairie View (8-14, 4-5 SWAC) went on a 27-9 run over 14 minutes to reclaim the lead and ultimately take the win. Davon Barnes led the Tigers with 19 points and 7 rebounds, while John Walker III narrowly missed a double-double with 15 points and 9 rebounds.
So, what's next for the Tigers? They'll have a few days to rest and regroup before taking on Florida A&M next Saturday with tipoff slated for 5:30 p.m. CST.
In the end, it was a game to remember with a lot of twists and turns, but TSU just couldn't seal the deal. As always, though, we're proud of our Tigers and can't wait to see what's in store for the rest of the season.
